Comments Off on Fantastic Fintan Floors it in Irish Crit Triumph

The new Irish criterium champion is our own Fintan Ryan, now with 5 national titles to his name and a constant for many years on the Irish track team, the club is extremely proud of his continuous and stellar progress since his early days as a junior in the club.

The win in Galway on Thursday night has come following some great performances bot on the track and road in recent months and is testament to the high level of effort he is putting into his training both here and in Mallorca where he is based for most of the year.

A new Irish National champion within the club…not many clubs with 70 members can claim that accolade…

Danny O’Shea Open 10 Mile TT & Para TT Combine for 2019

Saturday 13th July 10am from Jack Whites, Brittas Bay.

Every year we run the Open 10 mile TT under the guidance of Joanne and Geraldine with a second event to assist the 3R Mobility para cyclists national league. This year we have decided to utilise out assets in a better fashion and run both consecutively on the same day cutting down demands on club members and the numerous issues with venue and authorities.

But we can’t do it on our own and need volunteers(about 20) and when you returned your form you generously donated your time by choosing which event you would assist at…MB 200 or TT…so we are looking at our lists and are now reminding those who indicated their availability for the TT but als as usual could always do with a few other volunteers….don’t be shy and let Dave Peelo know when possible if you can volunteer two hours….why not cycle down and get some miles in…

  4. Cullinan wins 25 Mile TT

Comments Off on Cullinan wins 25 Mile TT

So near and yet so far for Paul Cullinan…a three second gap to breaking the hour mark but a conclusive win for the man in form…now leading the league by a significant margin of 15 points from Dave Peelo with one league race and two championship events left to contest.

The handicap winner on the evening was Jackie MacNamee with her second win of the season catapulting her up the table…

A bit of a battle going on from second to eighth position and a gap of 8 points between them all there should be a bit of juggling taking place in the league standings possible…

  6. Some man for One Man!

Comments Off on Some man for One Man!

He might be good on a TT bike but it seems he is good on a MTB bike too…in one of the oddest results in the club history it seems that Mark Prendergast will be known in future for his multi tasking…
He arrived believing he would marshal (on a mountain bike) but due to a surplus of volunteers was convinced to swop to a later date and decided to race…
And he won…staying ahead of the Scratchman Paul Cullinan he blitzed the Filterbeds course winning by a margin of two and a half minutes.
What a night…full results sent by email.

    Winner Mark Prendergast

    Second Paul Cullinan

    Third Roy Bowden

The league leader is now Paul Cullinan by 8 points from Glen Lyons and Roy Bowden with Dave Peelo one point further back.

Exciting stuff with four races left, 3 of them being championship events and L11 being a normal league event.

Comments Off on MB 200 Gives again to Charity

The numbers are in and following a fine comb job on our expenses and thanks to the speedy returns on our online banking facility we have the final tally…The MB 200 a tough challenge but a great event with 250 riders on Sunday 26th May.

We are proud to announce that the tidy sum of €4466 was this week sent to the Irish Hospice Foundation…all those who participated are greatly valued and thank you for being with us on our 12th edition…

But to those who worked on the event in the months before and on the day you should be proud of what we did as a small group…to those of you at the coal face especially Paul and Clare…we are so grateful for what you do for our club throughout the year.

  8. Race and Ride News

Comments Off on Race and Ride News

The racing was keen in last Thursday nights 10 mile TT with a great performance by a number of riders now showing good form in the second half of the racing season. The circuit from the Beehive to Jack Whites was troubled by a stiff headwind on the way down but blessed by an equally good draught on the return.
The championship race was run in conjunction with the handicap race and up for grabs was the 10 Mile crown for both men and ladies as well as a bunch of points in the race league for those who may not be yet ready for the top step…but we try!
The winner of the Men’s championship event was Paul Cullinan with a super ride staying ahead of last years champion Dave Peelo by a mere 21 seconds. The new Ladies champion is Cathy McCormack with a cracking ride of 28.21.
The handicap winner taking 11 points was Jackie MacNamee who put in a great time of 30.10 adjusted to 22.10 handicap time winning by 52 seconds. The new league leader is Glen Lyons with 8 points from 4th place giving him a one point lead over the chasing Dave Peelo. The three attachments show both race results and the league table.

  9. Mick Byrne Weekend 2019

Comments Off on Mick Byrne Weekend 2019

This weekend it is all about our flagship event the MB200.

No spins organised as most members will be busy at the grindstone before and during the big day on Sunday…all the information is below and the entry deadline have been extended to Friday night at 11pm…

The 12th Annual Mick Byrne Randonee will take place on Sunday May 26th 2019, starting at Loretto Abbey Dalkey, Co Dublin (200km @ 8am, 160km and 100km@ 9am)and as usual there will be three adventurous routes from 100km up to a testing 200km on some of the most beautiful roads in Co.Wicklow .

This year the entry numbers are limited to 300 participants. All funds raised on the day will go to funding in a small way, the incredible work done by the Hospice Foundation.

Last year you helped raise €5,500 on the day for the charity! THIS YEAR WE AIM TO BEAT €6000!

During your day you will experience stunning views of not only numerous mountain vistas including views to Co.Wexford but with the final test of your day ascending from Laragh over the tough Sally Gap you will need to keep something in reserve. The consolation of going up will surely be the welcoming scenery of Dublin Bay on your descent from Glencree and return home to Dalkey along the coast.

This event in memory of a man who was one of the prime movers in the foundation of Sorrento Cycling Club in 1968. One of his main ambitions was that people of all ages get to experience the joy, excitement and adventure of cycling! On the Mick Byrne Randonee you will experience all three in generous helpings….plus new friendships made along the way.

The 100km and 160km routes are great advance preparation for the Wicklow 200 and the 200km has nearly 3000 meters of climbing, a true challenge for any cyclist. There will be a number of feed stations provided along the routes to keep your strength up during your tour of the Garden County. As last year to ensure we make this as enjoyable as possible for you, we must cap the entry at 300 riders over the three routes so early entries are vital.

Last year we had 297 riders so make sure your enter early!

A Cycling Ireland Licence(€5 payable online) is necessary for those who are not members of a club, it is ESSENTIAL for all riders to sign on before departure to comply with required insurance requirements .

  10. The Mac’s(& Mc’s) have it!

Comments Off on The Mac’s(& Mc’s) have it!

If you rode on Corncrake last night to be on the winning podium your name either starts with Mac or Mc…as all three riders on the podium are sons or daughters in the gaelic sense….

The first man home Alan MacNamee firstly encountered his wife Jackie then had to contend with two more Mc’s/Mac’s(Mc Cormack and MacCarthy) near the finishing post…phew…well done all three keeping the fast men at bay on a tough three lapper.

A perfect evening for racing with a good turnout of riders and superb marshalling from an enthusiastic group of experienced volunteers under the stewardship of Paul Murray. All timekeeping duties and overall leadership from our own Race Secretary George O’Rourke.

The league now has a new leader and guess what it is a Mac…Aine MacCarthy takes over the top of the leader board by one point from Roy Bowden.

But things are tight going into the break week with only 5 points separating the top 8 riders…a great season so far.
