The waters of the Varty reservoirs were like millponds last night but that didn’t stop Club chair Stephen Healy making a big splash in only his second race of the league series, winning by 10 seconds from his marker Suzanne White. Both riders sliced through the field catching Aine MacCarthy (3rd) and Patrick Bradshaw(4th) less than half a lap from the finish on this three lap loop.

The scratch-man Paul Cullinan put in a valiant effort to chase down the field following in Roy Bowden in a dash for the line in a very tightly handicapped race.

There is now a three way tie for second on 32 points but the league leader Patrick Bradshaw has extended his margin to 10 points at the midway stage in this 12 race race series. On Thursday next(7.30pm) we move to the Tap pub on the old N11 for the 25 Mile TT championship which will no doubt shake up the league table in this race of truth. The support from the marshals was greatly appreciated last night and we hope to see many of them again next week.

  2. Peelo is back in form

Comments Off on Peelo is back in form

A very strong performance by Dave Peelo following a couple of marshalling stints showed his sights are firmly set on this years league title with a strong 10 Mile TT on the Beehive RAB circuit . The southerly wind on the return did not deter him from carving through the field winning by a slim margin from Cearbhaill Guilfoyle by a mere 7 seconds in the handicap results. His time was 5 seconds better than the winning time on this circuit last year showing he still is the man to beat every week.

The men’s TT championship winner was not surprisingly Dave Peelo by 16 seconds from Paul Cullinan in second place and Rory Hogarty rounding off the podium in third. The ladies TT was won by Suzanne White followed by Aine Mac Carthy in second and Eileen O’Sullivan on the third step. All will receive awards for these places at the awards ceremony at the end of the year.

The league lead is held for the second week by Patrick Bradshaw who has extended his position to six points but with a number of riders away at present this will all change no doubt in a couple of weeks time.

Next week we have a short break with racing returning the following week on Thursday 16th on the Filterbeds circuit with a 33kms CP over 2.8 laps of the route. A huge thank you to the many marshals who gave their evening up to keep the racing going, we appreciate it very much and very happy to report that none of us got wet!

First out of the blocks last night on the Gregory’s circuit Ehmar Qureshi defied the bookies staying ahead of the chasing pack to claim top spot on this fast lumpy route on his brand new bike. A great ride by Ehmar who only started riding races this year. In second place was Roy Bowden who moved through the field swiftly claiming his highest place so far this year with Patrick Bradshaw in third a further seven seconds back.

As the cats were away this week the mice made up places in the league and leader now is Patrick Bradshaw by a point from Roy Bowden with Alan MacNamee in third.

A sincere thank you to those of you who answered the call to marshal last night and made the night possible for the rest of us. Next week(Thursday 2nd June) we hold the 10 Mile TT beginning from Jack Whites at 7.30pm. We hope to see many more faces on their bikes riding this challenging but fair circuit.

  4. Ladies Night

    Comments Off on Ladies Night

A great result for the ladies of the club last night, in the third race of the season on the Corncrake circuit with Jackie MacNamee taking full honours followed in second by Aine MacCarthy, who dropped the two riders in her group on the final climb to claim ten points.

Great to see two club members taking part in their first races with Liam and Ehmar making the leap and the long awaited return of Rob Cullen, on the eve of his birthday, suiting up to take a well earned third place on the night.

The scratch men sat it out with marshalling duties which means that the league table has a change at the top with champion of 2020 Alan MacNamee moving to the top with his better half Jackie taking hold of second place.

No doubt we will see changes again next week(Thursday 26th May) on the Gregory’s (Newcastle) circuit with the race starting at 7.30pm,park at the filling station with the start at the N11 roundabout.
