Since I wrote these few lines we have learnt that The Olympics have been moved to summer 2021.A hard blow to all involved, but given the circumstances the only option possible. We will all still be as proud of Fintan’s achievement in ’21 as in ’20 and know that the time out will only see him 365 days stronger.
Congratulations to Fintan who recently qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he will be part of the 3 man Madison squad, with 2 places on offer on the day.Anyone who knows Fintan will know of the commitment, drive and work ethic which has brought him to this pinnacle. The journey started seven years ago as an U16 rider, when Fintan talent earned him a place on Cycling Ireland’s Talent 2020 program. Since then he has spent much of that time based in Majorca, to take advantage of the Velodrome facilities and sunnier climes. In the process there was alot of travelling to gain experience, rack up victories and and gather qualifying points. In between there were many trips home to ride the biggest domestic races. Fintan joins Dave Peelo ( Beijing Paralympics) and Chris Juul Jensen ( Youth Olympics) in representing Ireland at Olympic level, an impressive tally for a small club. We all wish Fintan the best of luck with his training and are very proud to have him representing us at this level.
