  2. The Professor’s legs…

Comments Off on The Professor’s legs…

Not quite Fignon…our own Professor Billy Bourke took first place in a cat and mouse game for the club Road Race championship over three laps of a new route near the beehive on Thursday night…

A six man group turned up the pace during the second lap and pushed each other during nearly an hour of mind games.

The finish line just over the crest of the hill coming back towards the Beehive was breached first by Billy with Andy Kavanagh close on the wheel followed in by Dave Peelo and Paul Cullinan for joint third.

The new Club League Winner Roy Bowden finished strongly and will be trying next week in the 25 mile TT winner (from the Tap just down the road) to finish off a great season with maximum points.

Thanks to George for his stalwart work and to our Marshals for their perserverance…

Next week we have refreshments after the race to toast Roy’s great season…we hope to seem any of you there!

  3. 10 Mile TT Championship Results

Comments Off on 10 Mile TT Championship Results

On a very blustery evening on the Beehive the first of the championship events crowned both the men’s and ladies 10 mile TT champions and for the next year both trophies will reside in the same household with being won by Gillian and Dave Peelo in a sensational  double whammy…

The man in form however still leading the league after a solid second place is Roy Bowden now by 11 points from Jamie Noone trailing on 42pts.

On Thursday next we move back to the Filter Bed circuit with 22.5 mile CP over three laps.

Looking forward to a great race and a forecast of warmer weather on the way!

  4. A Good Wash

Comments Off on A Good Wash

A downpour in the minutes leading up to the start led to a damp trip for the riders in race 6 in the club league around the Gregory’s circuit last night. The man in form recently Jamie Noone was unable to catch the two break away men Roy Bowden and Mark McGarry who working together managed to stay ahead of the chasing Noone by nearly 1 minute and 20 seconds on this demanding route.

The other fast man on the night Dave Peelo took a back seat unfortunately following a puncture shortly after the start.

The leaderboard has changed now with Roy leading and Jamie up to second moving Paul Cullinan following marshalling duties to third.

The next race following a two week break around the Mick Byrne is a 10 mille TT which is the first of the championship events and we expect a large field participating at that event.

Winner Ian Richardson receives the trophy from Geraldine O’Shea

After a number of attempts to win,UCD Fitzcycles rider Ian Richardson pulled off a super victory in the Danny O’Shea Open Memorial 10 mile time trial on Saturday over the fast Beehive circuit near Wicklow town.

A quality field of 29 riders rode in cloudy but warm conditions on the old N11 road to Jack Whites pub and return.

Featuring some stretches of new tarmac following the motorway construction this proved a popular stretch with the riders.

In second place the experienced Greg Swinand  of Aqua Blue followed in 39 seconds back with another UCD man Con Collis a further 12 seconds back.

A super event to remember the long time commissar and founding member of Sorrento Cycling Club.

The cup was presented by Danny’s widow Geraldine with the results and times being administered by the club racing secretary Joanne O’Shea, Danny’s daughter.
